When Should You Change Your Grips

2022-01-13

Golf club grips are made of rubber, so they can deteriorate. Just like car tires need to be replaced, golf club grips are consumable items that need to be replaced.

Many golfers say that the head speed and flight distance have been greatly improved after updating the grip. This is mainly because older grips are slippery, so you have to hold them harder than usual to keep them from slipping. If you hold it too tightly, the muscles in your hands and arms will become stiff and you won't be able to move quickly.

Some golf equipment manufacturers recommend that the grip should be replaced after about 40 plays. According to the frequency of ending once a week, it is about 10 months, so it is more reasonable to replace it once a year.

If it is a golfer who is less likely to end up on the court, whether it is necessary to replace the grip can be judged based on the observation of the grip. For example, the surface becomes hard or slippery, and wear begins near the palm of the left hand and the thumb of the right hand (right-handed players).

In addition, use a damp towel to gently wipe the grip after use to remove grease and sweat from the surface to increase the life of the grip.
